I chose the genre of Henri de Taoulouse-Lautrec who became famous as the bohemian artist of the Moulin Rouge. He captured the spirit and emotion of the belle époque, the “beautiful era” in Paris, through his posters and prints.
He used screen printing and lithographs to reproduce his posters so they had a posterized look to them with big shapes and hand drawn type. His usual colors were yellows, orange, red and black. talous14.png , talous 7.png , and talous1.png .
My subject was Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, two of my favorite Canadian musicians and poets from the 60’s who have endured and have written songs about each other. They met at the Miraposa Folk Festival and had a short relationship. I wanted to encapsulate that time in a poster from the Folk Festival where they met. I thought the “beautiful era” genre fit that time as well. I found this photo of them together from that festival lc-joni-mitchell.gif . The font that I used was IQFONT because of how it matched the hand written look.

This was for a competition posted on http://www.designboom.com/tivoliaudio_results.html. I will wait to post my entry until the results are in. Designboom is a great site that has so many new and forward thinking designs and ideas, it gives me hope for the future when I see people coming up with such great ideas. The results have been posted as of Dec. 2nd. my design got shortlisted and am in the USA section. The ones that won were great.

Here is my bouquet flowersafin which really is still in soil. I hate that flowers have to die once they are picked. I would much rather have them alive as long as possible.

Here is our first project of a technical drawing.

It is my sewing machine from a birds eye view. I have to oil it occasionally and I always thought it was interesting to look at. This is one of three places that you have to put the oil. This is a Sears sewing machine that I purchased in 1973, it has all metal parts which is rare in sewing machines these days. It was my first big purchase when I was 20.
